Chris Rees, the Chairman of West Essex Car club and managing director of Rees Engineering, died last Friday following a long battle with cancer. He was 50 years old. Chris was a regular competitor on clubman and historic events, and owned a wide assortment of rally cars. In recent years he had acquired a taste for long-distance historic events. He was an influential and popular figure in West Essex Car Club, having served as chairman for 12 years. Through his engineering company he was also the main sponsor of the Millbrook National Rally, although he was equally enthusiastic about the club's smaller evens. Motorsport News would like to offer its sincere condolences to his wife Annette, son Dominic and his many friends. Personal memories by Ray Crowther
His greatest passion was for all forms of rallying, and I was privileged to co-drive for him on the eponymous Rees Steelwork Breckland Forestry Rally in 1991 and 1992. He flew (almost literally - see photo) through the East Anglian forests, but always with safety to the fore. I still have the video tapes to remind me how he bravely took 2nd and 4th places on those two events.
I He lost the fight, but we have lost a friend who had so much more to give. I've unearthed some relevant archives of the Breckland
Forestry Rallies of 1991 and 1992 which you can view below. |
